Ownership of the field that we shoot in has now been transferred to the Club.
The ground that we shoot on came up for sale just over three years ago and the Club made a decision that we should try and raise the funds to buy it. We realised that this might take some time so a couple of club members kindly offered to purchase the field and become our landlords until such time that the Club could purchase it from them. With our fund raising efforts together with a mortgage we were able to transfer the ownership last week.
A big thank you to the club members who funded the initial purchase and made this possible.
We are now one of the very few archery clubs with their own range.

On Sunday 5th May, Sway Bowmen archer Charlotte Warne was selected to shoot in the Hampshire Archery team against Sussex. Shooting Barebow in a Hereford Round (6 dozen at 80 yards, 4 dozen at 60 yards and 2 dozen at 50 yards) Charlotte scored 721 – her first Master Bowman score with less than a year of shooting – and just 31 points shy of a Grand Master Bowman score. Well done Charlotte - a fantastic achievement in such a short amount of time.

On Sunday 5th May, eight archers from Sway Bowmen travelled to Bishops Waltham to take part in Merdon Bowmen’s annual shoot: The Merdon Arrow.
The day started out sunny and warm – Spring had finally arrived! During lunchtime, some clouds scurried by, dropping the temperature, but by the time shooting resumed for the afternoon, the clouds had vanished and the sun was once again shining down on the archery field.
The shoot is a friendly one, the round being shot a FITA 50 consisting of 6 dozen arrows shot at 50m on an 80cm target face. The main award for the shoot is “Captain of the Arrow” – decided by the first person to get an arrow wholly within a small diameter target in the centre. The second person to achieve this is awarded “Lieutenant of the Arrow”.
Shooting in the Gents Compound category, Sway had Bryan Golden who took home the “Lieutenant of the Arrow” award, scoring 621.
Shooting in the Gents Longbow category and scoring 231, Adrian Jones took Gold.
Shooting in the Ladies Longbow category and scoring 129, Sandie Baigent also took Gold.
Shooting in the Gents Recurve category were: Steve Humphrey – 531; Trevor Chalk – 483; Howard Jasper – 426; Richard Organ – 303; Adam Hackett – 237.
